HAVE YOU HEARD? CASE STUDY: A TRIBE CALLED QUEST
A Tribe Called Quest are an American Hip Hop collective formed in 1985, hailing from Queens, New York and are considered one of the pioneers of alternative hip-hop. Originally comprised of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White, the group released their first album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm which gained momentum with its singles 'Bonita Applebum' and 'Can I Kick It?', which have gone on to be some of the most iconic songs in their discography.
Their follow-up albums The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders were also met with critical acclaim and have gone on to be considered classic records within the genre. 1998 marked their disbandment following the release of their fifth full-length project The Love Movement, but in 2016, not long after the passing of Phife-Dawg due to complications with diabetes, the group surprised fans by dropping their last project together We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service - which was met with universal acclaim. This was the last album to feature Phife-Dawg.
