Martha and Scott Wainwright of indie folk duo Pushing Daisies have announced their pending indefinite hiatus following the departure of their youngest son from the family home.
Scott Wainwright has released a statement saying that there is no bad blood between either party and that it's simply time for them to take on a new artistic direction. "It's been fun writing and performing together, but we realized a long time ago that there wasn't as much of a spark between us and we each wanted to go on and pursue other things... with other people."
"There's certainly a big milestone once all your kids leave the nest. You're still on call as a parent, but you've successfully had your hand in raising an adult. It's hard work like that, that makes you want to go out and see what else life has to offer" he adds.
His soon-to-be ex-wife Martha states that they're not just mum and dad to their kids - who have grown up seeing them as this performing couple. "It makes it harder for them to realize that we are separate people with differing personalities. We think it's important for kids to grow up in a positive, collaborative environment, but once Travis is off to college, we both have other plans for ourselves."
When asked about whether or not they'll continue to release music under the Pushing Daisies name, Scott Wainwright had the following to say: "I'm personally very excited about some upcoming solo work of mine, but I'm confident the two of us will collaborate again for something special. You know, like Christmas."
